Synopsis

Mo may be doing well at school but he is frustrated by a lack of respect and status in his gang-dominated London neighbourhood. With his tough older brother Rashid as a role model, Mo inevitably becomes involved in violence and crime. When their friend Izzi is killed, the two brothers react in different ways and Mo, baying for vengeance, struggles to understand Rashid’s sudden changes in attitude, lifestyle and outlook. The film won its writer and director Sally El Hosaini the Best British Newcomer award at the 2012 BFI London Film Festival as well as a cinematography award at Sundance.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
