Synopsis

We all know the story of Jack and the Beanstalk: a foolish boy is reprimanded by his mother after selling the family cow in exchange for magic beans. He climbs a beanstalk to a land above the clouds and outwits a giant, earning various riches along the way. This film bears little resemblance to the fairy tale. It features more characters (including a princess in need of rescuing), more special effects and, most importantly, more giants. Rather than a game of cat-and-mouse with an oversized misery-guts, Jack the Giant Slayer finds himself involved in an all-out war between two species.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
