Synopsis

Leading fur-hunters on an expedition across unchartered American territory in 1820, legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass is ferociously attacked by a bear. Seriously injured, his fellow huntsmen are tempted with a bonus to get him back to base alive. However, corrupted by prejudice and money they leave him to die, or so they think. Based on a true story the film tracks Glass’ gruelling trek back home and bitter revenge on his betrayers, against wild, punishing terrain. Cinematically epic and overwhelmingly visceral the film immerses the audience in every grisly detail of Glass’ survival, mentally and physically. Led by a compelling performance from Leonardo DiCaprio, the film is a visually wrought personal odyssey and a thought-provoking reflection on the limits of human fears and emotions in the face of mortality.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
