Synopsis

While fawning over a cute guy on social media, high school student Maddie is caught off guard but pleased when a real-life boy, handsome but clearly older, strikes up a conversation with her in a park. J.J. seems bashful yet eager to discuss their shared love of music, even suggesting that she might like to come back to his college campus accommodation to listen to some records. Flattered and wanting to seem mature, Maddie accepts, yet not without some trepidation – which palpably increases once they arrive in his room. Cleverly exploring issues around consent and manipulative behaviour, Maddie is a modern tale about growing up and learning to listen to your instinct.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
