Although Jarhead is the tale of a US soldier - a marine named Anthony Swofford - and takes place in the early 1990s at the time of the first Gulf War, there's barely any fighting involved. Instead, the film takes a look at a side of war and the military rarely seen on the big-screen, the endless stretches of time in training where nothing seems to be happening, and where it's easy to forget how much danger you will one day find yourself in. Even when "Swoff" is called up to the Gulf, he finds himself having to cope more with the harsh conditions around him than any actual conflict. - Many would say that Jarhead, while short on conventional heroism, is probably closer to a real soldier's experience than many more action-packed war dramas.
Contains strong language, sex references and strong war imagery.
