Wolves howl, doors creak, bats flutter and maidens scream in terror as Bram Stoker's immortal vampire creation creeps onto the screen in what is perhaps his most famous incarnation. It's amazing that, after so many parodies and pale imitations, Bela Lugosi's Brylcreamed blood-sucker still has the power to unsettle and unnerve. Spookily lit, this is one of the most memorable of the Universal horror films that scared the world witless in the 1930s.
