Synopsis

This touching and often harrowing drama tells the story of James Gregory, a racist South African prison guard who forms an unlikely friendship with his prisoner - the young Nelson Mandela. Based on Gregory's controversial memoir, the film begins in 1968 and sets out to show how the two men forged a close bond over their shared love of the Xhosa language. It's a fascinating look at the recent political history of South Africa through one man's eyes.
