Synopsis

Two men meet in a hospital and start talking as they both watch over women in long-term comas - one as a nurse doing voluntary extra duty, the other as a boyfriend. Both, it turns out, have more of an emotional connection with the women who will not speak back than they do with anyone conscious. Gradually however, the two men form a close bond. That might sound like a creepy basis for a story, but genius Spanish director Pedro Almodovar manages to come up with a film that's constantly surprising, and funny, full of the tenderness and compassion that has seen him become one of the world's most acclaimed filmmakers.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
