For 20 years aliens, known as prawns, have been on earth, segregated from humans and living in refugee camps. Wikus Van De Merwe is the enthusiastic bureaucrat charged with evicting them. Copley does a brilliant job moving seamlessly from comic touches to action heroics, while the film's documentary style and incisive skewering of apartheid issues raises the possibilities of the sci-fi genre. This unique action-drama is a valuable tool with which to discuss the legacy of apartheid and the personal consequences of racism and exclusion.
Classic 1950s sci-fi film in which a doctor from a small Californian town discovers its citizens are being replaced by identical-looking aliens.
