Big Hero 6 – I could watch it over and over again! This Disney animation made in 2014 is perfect for the whole family. When our club leader set this as our film, I had never heard Big Hero 6, the characters in it or the cartoon (Big Hero 6: The Series) this futuristic movie is based on. After watching this, I've re-watched it and I'm totally hooked on the cartoons! Like robots? Check. Like sci-fi/futuristic movies? Check. Want a movie that warms your heart? Check. Like superheroes? Check. Then this film is for you! It's also suitable for about everyone of every age. Please watch this as, even though at first glance it may seem just your average superhero movie, I found myself laughing, cheering and crying along with the characters, resulting in it becoming one of my favourite movies EVER!!!
This movie is based in the bustling, high-tech fictional city of San Fransokyo (a mix of San Francisco and Tokyo). This setting provided energy and colour to the movie. A fourteen year old boy named Hiro is loving life: he got into his dream college, his big brother (Tadashi) is always there for him and he has four of the best friends he could wish for! But, one day, a tragedy occurs. A fire starts and he loses someone he loves along with a professor he admires. All seems lost, but soon a chubby, humanoid, white robot with the shape of a “walking marshmallow” is found! Baymax, created by Tadashi to work as a heath care companion, is the size of a fully-grown adult with exaggerated features such as a bulging belly! His curious nature and some new updates make him the perfect citizen-saving companion. Hiro and Baymax along with the rest of their friends (Go Go, Fred, Honey Lemon and Wasabi) create the crime-fighting team I've come to know and love: Big Hero 6! Something sinister is going on. Hiro's old invention which everyone thought was destroyed is being used against him, Big Hero 6 and the rest of the city. Who is behind the mask of the evil mastermind who controls them? Watch to find out...
This movie ticks all the boxes and more! There are several points where I felt the urge to cry and one particular moral shone through: the past is in the past, but the future is unwritten. Memories are incredible, they can keep us going, but they can hold us back too. So don't let the past control you and follow the example set by Big Hero 6: write your future. Because who knows who the next (or the first) Big Hero 6 will be? It might all start with you.
