Team Structure and Core Activity

Our England team, based in Salford, Bristol, Birmingham and London, delivers tailored workshops and resources across England supporting the needs of the curriculum by linking to the eight Gatsby Benchmarks for screen careers, providing quality resources linking to PSHE modules on resilience, and highlighting the value of film education. By watching our rich catalogue of films via Into Film+ or engaging in our events or competitions such as Film of the Month, our work gives schools evidence of SMSC activity and provides them with cultural capital.

We work collaboratively with a range of partners across England to enhance the reach of our offer including The Careers and Enterprise Company Careers Hubs, Local Cultural Education Partnerships, charities, cinemas, film industry partners, universities, and Multi-Academy Trusts. We are an Artsmark Partner and Arts Award supporter.

A quarter of all UK state schools have streamed content using Into Film+. In England, you will find schools across 158 Local Authorities engaging with our programme; from Redcar & Cleveland to Plymouth, North Lincolnshire to North Somerset and everywhere in between.

Our Programme Delivery Coordinators work directly with schools and with partners to deliver high quality teacher training. We also work closely with universities and Initial Teacher Training Providers across England to support and inspire teachers at the start of their career wanting to use film in the classroom. We understand the needs of educators and the barriers teachers face, and endeavour to tailor the sessions to support successful engagement with the Into Film offer.

"I just wanted to thank you again for your training tonight. It was incredibly useful and felt manageable. I feel like it could have a great impact in school and I am looking forward to seeing the projects begin." Deputy CEO, Rutland Learning Trust.

How can film drive educational attainment?

  • Film supports learning in a wide range of curriculum areas; it has a unique ability to bring a subject to life and facilitate deeper learning
  • Film brings together so many different arts and sciences and makes them real, and thus is a valuable tool that can be used to engage children and young people with the curriculum and increase their overall motivation for learning
  • Filmmaking is a collaborative activity that can be used to develop essential life skills, such as communication, enterprise and problem solving
  • Film provides a valuable tool for broadening the minds of pupils and enables them to access a more diverse range of cultural experiences. It opens up alternative perspectives and experiences outside of their current world view.

Education Ambassadors and Youth Advisory Council

We value the views and advice that our key stakeholders can offer the Into Film programme. We support two core groups, our Education Ambassadors and Youth Advisory Council, who each meet three times annually, as well as taking part in other advocacy work and opportunities throughout the year.

We value working collaboratively with national and regional partners who support young people and their educational and creative development.

We work closely with a number of organisations including The Bottle Yard Studios, Bristol, The Royal Opera House Bridge, Inspiring Futures: London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Cultural Education Partnership, Artswork, Real Ideas Organisation, A New Direction, Arts Connect, Curious Minds, IVECulture Bridge North East, Futures Teaching Alliance, Pinc College and Warrington Youth Zone.

In partnership with the BFI Film Audience Network partners Film Hub North at Home and Showroom, Film Hub Midlands at Broadway and via Flatpack, Film Hub South East at the Independent Cinema Office, Film Hub South West at The Watershed and Film Hub London at Film London, we work to support and build young audiences through their love of film in cinemas.
