Synopsis

Jumah is a former African child solider, brought to London a few years ago by his adoptive mother. Nearing his sixteenth birthday Jumah is just beginning to adapt to life on the council estate and coming to terms with his violent past. Developing a keen interest in barbering, and with a romance blossoming with a girl at school, things for Jumah are looking hopeful, until he witnesses a stabbing by a fellow pupil. Threatened into not telling the police, Jumah struggles to maintain control of his emotions as echoes of his past begin to haunt him in this taut teen drama.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
